The book O direito de não ser desinformado: Media, fact-checking e literacias em Portugal proposes an in-depth reflection on the value of informational culture and the appreciation of verified knowledge. Bringing together contributions from researchers and professionals, the work compiles different studies that analyze the contemporary dynamics of social communication and the challenges posed by disinformation phenomena. It highlights how these phenomena influence the formation of public opinion and democratic participation, interfering with current political and social configurations. Published in 2025, the book emerges in a context marked by the growing influence of social media and opinion spaces within the media ecosystem, where traditional journalism competes for space with digital platforms. In light of this scenario, the authors advocate the urgent promotion of media and democratic literacy among producers, mediators, and consumers of information, reinforcing a commitment to quality, responsibility, and the verification of informational content.
