The book Media, informação e literacia: Rumos e perspetivas is the organized compilation of contributions presented at the International Congress on Literacy, Media, and Information, held at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra in 2018. The 24 chapters that make up the two parts of the work reflect the diversity of approaches and perspectives presented, essentially representing the view that the field of media studies dedicates to what is undoubtedly one of the pressing issues of the present. Whether in academic discourse, politics, or public opinion, the concept of media literacy has gained unquestionable centrality, and in recent years its focus has expanded from print and audiovisual media to include, with particular interest, the internet and new media (Livingstone, 2004). This book thus constitutes a valuable contribution to addressing key questions that concern researchers, policymakers, and ordinary citizens alike: What is media literacy? What challenges does it face today? And what do case studies reveal about the subject?
