Abstract

To talk about the Juazeiro brings to mind the magical and mystic city, with the time marked by the bells of the church, of the Franciscanos, Socorro and Salesianos, as the clouds are passed through by the plain turbines. Where the sayings of the old central market alternate with the coldness and organization of the shopping-centre and the old conversations in the barber shop gain the velocity and the technology of the ‘cyber-cafe’.
Juazeiro is much more than a city, it is a crossroad of the destinies of the ‘Sertão’ and the special place where one can live and, at the same time, observe and realize in practice, what we have read in the books, through the mediation of a theorist: simultaneity of times, mediations, tensions and the conflituous relation between the spoken and the written.
