Abstract

Reflection on the film noir cinematic genre developed in the United States of America, in the forties and fifties of the twentieth century, inserted in a space-time of war and post-war. The article focuses mainly on how the character of the femme fatale became a symbol of female freedom in a time of restrictions and censorship.

  • Abigail Fragoso, Centro de Estudos e de Investigação em Belas-Artes (CIEBA)

    Researcher, designer and illustrator based in Lisbon. PhD in Fine Arts, specialization in Communication Design by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. Main interests and focus in research are cinema and poster design, particularly movie poster design. Collaborating research member of CIEBA – Center for Research and Studies in Fine Arts of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon.
