Resumo

Este artigo examina a mitificação e a reconstrução épica da imagem de Diana após a sua morte. No contexto da cultura de imagens e espectáculo da era pós-moderna, a atenção recai sobre os significados inerentes à cobertura televisiva deste acontecimento trágico. Neste sentido, a estetização melodramática do funeral de Diana é inserida no seio da esfera política da nova maioria trabalhista, liderada por Tony Blair, e comparada ao impacte relativamente reduzido produzido pelo funeral de uma das grandes figuras de referência da Igreja do século XX, Madre Teresa, cuja morte ocorreu alguns dias depois.
