Abstract

Introduction – Radiotherapy (RT) is a therapeutic approach to breast neoplasia. However, there are several irradiation techniques (TI) that can be used. Objectives – Compare 4 TI, considering the target volume (PTV) irradiation and the organs at risk (OAR). Methodology – 7 patients with indication to RT to the left breast were elected. On computerized tomography, the contours of the PTV and the OAR were drawn. 4 treatment plans/patient were calculated: external beam (EBRT), intensity modulated with two (IMRT2), 5 fields (IMRT5), and dynamic arc (DART) RT. Results – Dose-volume histograms were compared for all TI using the statistical analysis software, IBM SPSS v20. With IMRT5 and DART, the OAR receives more low doses. However, IMRT5 has better conformity and homogeneity indexes for the PTV. Conclusions – IMRT5 has the best conformity index; EBRT and IMRT2 have better results than DART. There are significant differences between the TI mainly in low doses of the OAR.
